Crafting a Splash: My Experience at Judith Hope’s Online Puppet Workshop! 🎭🐟
A Journey into Sustainable Puppet-Making with a World-Class Teacher
When it comes to puppet-making workshops, Judith Hope’s classes are a true gem. I recently attended her “Down in the Deep” online course, and let me tell you—it was awesome! Judith is a phenomenal teacher: warm, welcoming, endlessly patient, and brimming with knowledge. Whether you're an experienced maker or just dipping your toes into the world of puppetry, her workshops are designed to inspire and equip you.
Here’s why this course won me over:
What I Loved 🧵✨
Eco-Friendly Focus: Judith’s emphasis on using sustainable and recyclable materials made the process feel both creative and responsible.
Expert Instruction: Her step-by-step guidance ensures everyone, regardless of experience, can create something wonderful.
Tricks of the Trade: Judith shared so many clever tips to elevate your puppet-making game.
Interactive Learning: The class was packed with opportunities for questions and live demos.
Perfectly Timed: Four 1-hour sessions spread over four days were just right to absorb everything without feeling rushed.
Global Connections: The online format meant meeting and networking with fellow creatives from all over the world.
Beginner-Friendly: Accessible for all skill levels—it’s all about having fun and learning.
What We Made: A Fish Puppet 🐠
The course centred on creating a fish puppet from scratch using recycled materials. Judith taught us how to design and construct:
An opening and closing mouth
A flexible body structure
A weighted, swinging tail
These techniques weren’t just limited to fish puppets—they can be adapted to bring all kinds of creatures to life!
Materials 🛠️
The workshop kept sustainability at its heart with items like recycled cardboard, scraps of fabric, bungee cords, and bamboo skewers. Judith also introduced us to simple tools like hot glue guns and craft knives, making the process accessible and straightforward.
Don’t Miss Out! 🚀
Judith Hope’s workshops are more than just classes—they’re an opportunity to grow as a maker while having a blast. I don’t know when her next classes will be, but I highly recommend following Judith on her website and social media. Her classes are incredibly popular and spaces fill up fast, so keep an eye out for updates to grab your spot.
