Looking to spark creativity and cultural storytelling in your community or classroom?
In this joyful 2-hour workshop led by artist Filiz Aksu, participants are guided in creating their own shadow puppets inspired by characters from across history and imagination – from Einstein and Bart Simpson to Nasreddin Hodja and princesses. Participants bring their creations to life using a traditional Turkish shadow stage, learning how light and movement create magical theatre.
Rooted in the Karagöz shadow puppet tradition – recognised by UNESCO as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage – this workshop blends craft, culture and play in a way that delights children and adults alike.
“Once you’ve made your puppet, try it out on our small stage. Then take it home and keep the magic going – all you need is a torch and a wall!”
